Dale Laverne Johnson passed away at the age of 98 on Tuesday, March 26th. He was a resident of The Villas at Sunny Acres Assisted Living, where he died peacefully in his sleep.
Dale was best known for his dry, Will Rogers-style of humor and could be relied upon to provide entertainment at any social gathering.
Dale was born and raised in Nebraska. He began federal employment in the park service at Carlsbad Caverns, where he was working as a tour guide on December 7th, 1941. Dale joined the Navy the next day and served in the Philippines until WWII ended. Dale then continued federal service in the Veterans Administration, eventually becoming the Director of Finance in Washington, D.C.
Dale was married to a Colorado native, Mabel Edna Hill, for 63 years, until her death in 2011 at the age of 95. The couple moved to Evergreen when Dale retired in 1975.
Dale is survived by a daughter, Dale Lynn Peterson, three grandchildren, Laura Abbott, Evan Thomas, and Matthew Peterson, and three great-granddaughters, Aydah, Joanna, and Renna Abbott.
Viewing is from 10:30-11:30 am on Thursday, April 4th, followed by interment at Ft. Logan with military honors at noon (Shelter A.) A celebration of Dale's life will be held at Sunny Acres at 2:30, 2515 E. 104th Ave., Thornton CO 80233, in the 2nd floor dining room. All are welcome.
