Affectionately known as Danny or the "Original DJ" :) - He thrived on remaining positive despite any cards life dealt:
"A positive mind finds opportunity in everything. Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference."
Daniel Lee Johnson, Jr. was born on February 4, 1948 as the second baby boy to his loving parents, Daniel Lee Johnson Sr. and Charlene T. Johnson in Nuyaka, Oklahoma. He grew up working hard alongside his siblings in the city and county of Okmulgee, OK. Early mornings of busy chores before school ingrained in him the true meaning and value of working with one's hands for a lifetime. Some hot summers were spent working with a nearby neighbor, traveling the back country roads with siblings and friends, until it was etched like a roadmap in his mind the way home backwards. Fond family memories include Danny enjoying playing basketball with one of his best friends, Zann McGee. Drawing was one of his passions, and his sister Dannie Mae encouraged him to think about Drafting school. Mom kept the family love growing through the endless delicious homemade meals, including the best gumbo and stuffing known :) , along with dessert that left all speechless, from her famous pound cakes, unforgettable pies (especially sweet potato and pecan), and special seven-upside down cake, Danny traveled back home for. Collecting lightning bugs, fishing and running after the many animals, and going to rodeos and hometown dances forged the family bonds tight, before each left home.
As Danny ventured away from home after graduation, he met his special love, Burma Sue Jackson in Tulsa, OK, after recently joining the Air Force. Their love stood the early tests of time, and they were married shortly after he returned from spending four years in Vietnam, on October 12, 1968. They moved from Mt. Clemens, MI to Denver, CO in February 1971, where they would plant invaluable roots with dear friends that would become like family. With the value and love of family instilled in both of them, they deeply loved and cherished their children: Dina, Duan, and Dalenia, each with a special uniqueness about them.
A most precious to learn about his loving Creator, and have a personal relationship with Him came Danny's way, and he accepted a bible study after secretly listening in to Burma's study :) This led to his baptism as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at a Circuit Assembly October of 1972 in Denver, CO. He was so excited to learn an accurate knowledge of truth, especially about the wonderful hope for those who had died, as this concerned him greatly growing up. Danny and Burma worked with great effort and commitment to instill the love of Jehovah and the truth in their children, and they are forever grateful to the friends that became family and supported them in this through the years. He went on to serve as an Elder for many years with longtime faithful brothers, that united them as dear friends in their special service to Jehovah.
In recent years, Danny enjoyed serving as a Ministerial Servant along with his friends and hardworking brothers in Aurora Central. We will treasure his fine talks with simple illustrations that brought the truth to life. He had a unique way with his scripture 'rhymes' and sayings that touched our hearts, and helped us memorize many verses. He created a unique way of organization with numbers and spreadsheets.
Many dear friends have expressed how dearly missed he will be at the literature counter. He remembered what you ordered, even if you forgot:) It was very important to him that one received their literature on time, and he found special enjoyment in personally delivering many items. He nicknamed himself, "Zoom Zoom" during the time friends shared in the ministry together on Zoom.
Fond memories of Danny certainly include his funny jokes that had us on our toes laughing :), and who can savor and taste now his barbeque, which was hands down the best on this side of Oklahoma!, with standing orders through the years, especially in the mountains with the Mckeon Family wonderful weekend :) Burma will dearly treasure their 55 years of marriage and friendship in which they both worked hard to please Jehovah and love one another through the changing times, as they endured the increasing health concerns they were thankful Jehovah and the friends aided them to cope with. She will miss his laugh and love for the truth. Dalenia is forever grateful to them both for the best gift, coming to know Jehovah and for her Dad's special 'talks' growing up, teaching her to drive a stick, skating until twilight hours, endless ice cream, taking care of her hair on some picture days, and dancing. Danny was a faithful man of integrity, loving, patient, kind, compassionate, and courageous. He emanated a quiet strength beyond words, and set a beautiful example of endurance through life's challenges. Joy for him was in the simple moments of listening to his favorite music and sharing new health insights with ones he loved dearly. He was determined, with a purposeful intent through illness and the passing of time to remain faithful, trusting in Jehovah, to be positive with a lighthearted disposition and focus on the beautiful future just around the corner.
Danny leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Burma Sue Johnson, daughter, Dalenia Montgomery (Perry Montgomery), son, Duan Johnson (Cara Johnson), son in law Chris Horn (Daughter Dina - preceded him in death), and his precious Aunt Sis, and a host of Uncles, Cousins, Nephews, and Nieces; parents Daniel Lee Johnson Sr. and Charlene Johnson preceded him in death; Brother Charlie Johnson, Sisters: Dannie Mae Carliss, Gale Clark (Larry Morris), Glenda Golden (Rodney Chaney), Jackie Tate (Roy Tate), Sister in law, Linda Johnson (Brother Ronnie Johnson - preceded him in death) Brother in law, John Adams (Sister Doris Adams - preceded him in death), Grandkids: DaRina McClellan (Kenny McClellan), CiAra Horn, Christopher Horn, (Yasmin Horn), DaVon Horn, Sade Johnson, Kimiko Johnson, Kammwrin Johnson, Drew Webster, Sydney Webster, J.D.
