Daniel Mascarenas

September 4, 1932 — September 3, 2023

Daniel Mascarenas passed away peacefully one day short of his 91st birthday on September 3rd, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Pauline, three daughters, Cindy, Karen (Dale), Michelle (Steve), 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters (Clara and Rosalie) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughter Kim (Roy), his mother, Pauline, and two sisters, Cecile and Martha.

Daniel was a polio survivor having contracted the disease in early childhood. He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy where he learned HVAC skills that would provide for his family in later life. An avid do-it-yourselfer, he replumbed, changed out the electrical system, and renovated the family home, adding bedrooms, redesigning the kitchen, and updating bathrooms.

He taught his daughters independence and self-reliance. He taught them how to change the oil in the car and how to change a tire. He taught them gardening and other useful skills. Most of all he taught his daughters and grandchildren how to read, spending many hours reading to them and with them. He always attended field days at the elementary school where the kids and grandchildren attended school.

He was just 6 hours shy of graduating from college, Metropolitan State University, with a degree in Psychology and Business Administration. While at University, he taught English as a second language to students of other nations. He was a lively and exciting teacher. Learning and being a lifelong learner were very important to him.

He will be dearly missed by all his family, but especially by his wife of nearly 70 years. A life together, well lived and very happy.
Rest in Peace – lovingly, your wife, Pauline.
