Daniel R. Hill

Daniel Russell Hill was born August 28,1921 in Carterville, MO. When he was four months old, he and his parents, Gladys and Miles Hill, moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he spent his childhood years. He graduated from Central High School in Tulsa in 1938, and then attended the Oklahoma Business School of Accountancy and Law where he graduated in 1939. He then went to work for Bethlehem Steel in Tulsa shortly thereafter until he enlisted in the Army Air Corp in August of 1942. He served in both the US and Guam during World War II, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946, and returned back home to work for Bethlehem Steel once more.

Dan originally met Miss June Plowman when June was 14 years old at a 1942 softball practice where June's father, Jess, was the coach of the Rosehill Methodist Church softball team. Following a long correspondence during the war, Dan came home from the service to marry June Edra Plowman on December 31, 1947, where they remained in Tulsa following their marriage. Their only child and cherished son, Mark Edward Hill was born in Tulsa on March 17, 1956.

Dan went to work for Shell Oil in January of 1949 in the purchasing department, and was employed with them for 26 years. During Dan's career with Shell Oil, he was transferred from Tulsa to Denver, Oklahoma City, back to Denver and then Houston, Texas. June and Dan moved back to Denver in 1975, where he went to work for Oil and Gas Processors and stayed for 8 years until his retirement in 1983.

Dan was active for many years at Phillips United Methodist church in Lakewood, CO.
He was a big football fan, favoring the University of Oklahoma football team, the Dallas Cowboys and of course, the Denver Broncos. He also enjoyed reading about the Civil War, game shows and going to listen to his son Mark and daughter-in-law Deborah perform music. Post retirement, Dan and June traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Canada and took many trips across the US.

Most important to Dan was his family, which grew when Mark married Deborah Jacobs in 1983 and again with the arrival of his three beloved grandchildren; grandson Jesse, age 25, grandson Austin, age 17 and granddaughter Lilyrose, age 2. By his side through the years was his loving wife June and on December 31, 2007 they reached the milestone of being married 60 years.
