Daphne J. Groenendaal passed away very peacefully on July 8th at the Medical Center of Aurora , with her daughter, Denise, by her side. She was 91 years of age.
At the time of her death she was residing at Harvard Square Assisted Living in Denver, Colorado.
Daphne was born July 28, 1932 in Great Yarmouth, England. At the age of 19 she married an Air Force Service Man, named John C. Manges from the state of Kansas. They had four children, two girls and two boys. The two girls and one boy were born in England and one boy born in Phoenix, AZ. The two girls were named Denise and Debra, which Debra is deceased as of the age of 48 and the boy born in England named John resides in the State of Washington. The boy born in AZ whose name was Steven passed away three days after birth.
Because of my dad being in the Air force, we lived in England and France and then settled in Aurora, Colorado in 1965.
Daphne’s first husband, John C. Manges, died in 1967 at the age of 36, after 16 years of marriage. Daphne raised three children on her own until they had all graduated high school.
After that in 1979 she married another man named Thomas Groenendaal from the State of Washington. They were married for 11years when he also passed away in 1990.
In 1995 my mom moved to Yuma, Arizona with her sister, who is now deceased. She loved Yuma and her favorite past time was shopping in Mexico and gambling. She had a significant other who she lived with for 25 years. He passed away in February, 2022 . In July of 2022 my mom came to live with me in Littleton. In February thru April of 2023, I moved my mom from Yuma to Littleton and sold her house. She moved into Harvard Square on May 1st, 2023.
Daphne is preceded in death by her parents, Caroline and George Squires, and her siblings, Rodney, George, and Patricia.
She leaves behind two living children Denise and John, seven grand children, Amy, Chrissy, Tyler, Kim, Brooke, Jamie, and John. and eleven great grandchildren, Kalli, Kingston, Luke, Ashlyn, Summer, River, Kylie, Taylor, Curtis, Otto and Gretta. Also four nephews, Darin, Kevin, Gary and Blake, and three Nieces, Shelly, Susan and Tori.
The funeral will be held July 25, 2024 at Newcomer's Funeral Home, 901 S. Sheridan Blvd, Lakewood, Colo at 11am, with a viewing at 10am. There will be a Celebration of Life following at a location tbd. (will be announced at time of funeral).
My mom loved and cared about everyone she met. I sure hope as many of you as possible can join us in celebrating her life. Love to all.
