David Houston Evans, born on December 26, 1948, in Washington, D.C., departed this life on December 20, 2024, at the VA Medical Center. In his passing, he leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories etched in the hearts of his family and friends.
A proud veteran of the Air Force, David approached life with a distinct blend of humor and kindness, infusing warmth into every interaction. His passion for his family was unparalleled, and he derived profound joy from the simplest moments spent with them. He shared a particularly special bond with his granddaughter, Aaliyah, delighting in their frequent visits to Dunkin Donuts. Those excursions, however, are forever marked by a harrowing incident of an automobile fire—yet, miraculously, all emerged except for their beloved van.
In addition to his love for his family, David had a love for the mountains, often whisking his wife, Susan, away for gambling adventures when they sought reprieve from the ordinary. He built lasting memories with his great-grandchild, Anthony, filled with playfulness and affection. His grandson, Stephen, fondly recalls the warmth of times spent living in what he lovingly called "the little house," where David's endearing nickname for him, "kiddo," resonated in the air like the comforting cadence of home.
David cherished the art of reading and possessed a remarkable talent for calligraphy, finding peace and fulfillment in the stroke of a pen. Above all, he was a man of prayer, deeply rooted in his faith, which served as a guiding force throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Evans; his mother, Pauline Evans; his daughter, Tanya Ward; his sons, Richard Barker, Lee Barker and Erica Vilapando; his sister, Cheryl Govert; his brother-in-law, Scot Govert; and a host of grandchildren, aunts, uncles, and numerous friends who were fortunate enough to know him.
Though preceded in death by his father, Hank Evans, David's spirit remains alive in the laughter of his grandchildren, the memories crafted with family, and the love extended to all those he encountered. His kind-hearted nature and humorous spirit will be sorely missed but never forgotten. David Houston Evans leaves behind not merely footprints, but a vibrant tapestry of humanity that will continue to warm the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
