David was born to the late Timoteo and Rose Mondragon, June 3, 1960 in Denver, CO. David graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1979. David married Debbie on September 8, 1984. During this marriage they had 3 children, Andrew, Melissa and Alex. They lived together in Lakewood, CO until their divorce in 1996. David remarried to Danna on August 1, 1998. He came into this union with two step children, Nikole and Jesse. David and Danna lived together in Denver until their divorce in 2016.
David worked at Oroweat/Bimbo Bakery from 1983 until his retirement in 2021. David loved his job with the bakery. During his extended time there, David worked in several different areas from production to shipping, and considered the people he worked with as his second family.
David also loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, bird hunting and golfing. Many camping trips were enjoyed by friends and family, and he golfed often with his children and step children. David enjoyed music, and was stuck in the 70's as many of us are. He was often heard singing what is now considered Classic Rock in the hallways of his high school, and continued singing throughout his life. David spent many hours with his numerous fish aquariums, as he had both freshwater and saltwater tanks and enjoyed taking care of the fish and gazing at their beauty. He had a wealth of knowledge of different species of fish, birds and other animals that he acquired from watching countless hours of the discovery and nature channels. During high school David enjoyed ceramics, and took this enjoyment into adulthood. David created his own pots and sculptures at home, using his wheel and firing them in his kiln. David had several other hobbies including photography, coin collecting, archery and was self taught on how to play the guitar. He loved walking to Centennial Lake near his home where he took his children to on several occasions. He visited this lake more recently before his passing. And as many people know, David loved telling jokes. He would often start and end a phone call with a joke. Nobody knows for sure which of these were crafted by him, or just remembered and told, but David always knew how to cheer you up and make you laugh.
David is survived by three children: Andrew David Mondragon, of Craig; Melissa Lou Mondragon of Centennial; and Alex Michael Mondragon of Centennial. He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters; Ed, Henry, Delores, Victor, Timothy, Stephanie and Andrea and more nieces and nephews than you can count. He is preceded in death by his parents Timoteo and Rose, sisters Rosemary and Rita and brother Ernie.
