David W. Ruley, Jr, 70, of Denver, CO, died January 7, 2018, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Marion, IN, on October 4, 1947 to David W. and Mary E. (Middleton) Ruley.
After attending St. Paul-Bennett, he graduated from Marion High School in 1966, where he played on the State Championship Golf Team. He attended Manatee Junior College in Bradenton, Fl on a golf scholarship and later obtained his degree in agronomy and turf grass management from Penn State University.
David proudly served his country as a United States Marine in Vietnam from 1968-70.
He was quite the athlete, excelling in golf, tennis and swimming. He swam for coach Glen S. Hummer on the 1963 AAU National Championship Team. His love of snow skiing led him to Colorado where he met and married his wife, Barbara Giebenrath. Barbara survives along with their two sons, Adam David "Spike" Ruley and Isaac David Ruley both of Denver, Sisters, Roberta Norkus, Rebecca (Danny) Walls, Brother, Philip J. "Joe" (Judi) Ruley, all of Marion, Nieces, Neta Norkus, Indianapolis, Olivia "Olive Oil" Custer, Arizona, Tennille "Toenail" Alfandre, North Carolina, Rachel Polsley, Marion and Nephews, Vincent Norkus and Joseph Ruley of Indianapolis.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Brother in Law, Mick Norkus, and Aunt and Uncle, Florence "Flossie" and Philip J. "Pip" Middleton.
He owned City Wide Auto Insurance, Denver, CO, for over 30 years, as well as many other commercial properties in the Denver area.
David will be remembered for his love of life's simple pleasures, his cars, foot rubs, golf, movies, and good restaurants. He was especially proud of last Thanksgiving dinner with his Sons, and friends Dexter and Otto. He played golf until a few days prior to his passing and continued to discuss politics over the phone with his Sister.
