David Stanley Tyson ("Dave"), 69, a long-time resident of Aurora, Colorado, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2022 at home after a brief illness. He was born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania on July 23, 1952 to Stanley and Irma Tyson, who both preceded him in death.
Dave grew up in Doylestown and went to work at an early age for Kenny's News Agency and Bookstore, first delivering papers and ultimately moving to the management and storefront side of the business. He was able to spend some of his summers on the family apple orchard near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Dave graduated from Bucks County High School in 1970 and moved to Colorado with his family in 1981. Dave worked full time from the time he was a kid and had several different careers. He obtained a B.S. from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and worked in accounting and industrial sales, but wasn't satisfied with either career and then found his calling with the Cherry Creek School District Transportation Department. He retired in 2017 after 20 years driving school buses and training other drivers for the school district. He had an impeccable work ethic and rarely if ever missed a day of work his entire life. He took exceptional pride in the safety of the kids he was responsible for, and truly enjoyed every day he went to work and the people he worked with.
Outside of work, he was a long-time dedicated member of the Cherry Creek Jaycees and later JCI Senate, serving in various local and state leadership positions. In his spare time, he was a voracious reader, especially enjoying adventure novels, historical fiction, and contemporary news. He was able to pass on that love of reading to his family and his instructions were "read three books a week." He was a Civil War buff, and knew the entire Gettysburg battlefield and events from memory.
Dave was a loyal and dedicated friend to those he knew and worked with. Through his involvement with the Jaycees, he became an exceptionally good public speaker and had a good comedic wit. He was ready to give a reasonably informed opinion on just about any political topic if it came up. Those who ate the meals he prepared would likely all say he was an above-average cook.
David is survived by his wife of 32 years, Diane Englehardt Tyson and his children Michele and her husband Dave Stutman and Daniel and his wife Evgeniya. He will be missed by his six grandchildren: Donovan, Connor, and Saige Stutman, and Yaroslava, Nicolas, and Lawrence Tyson, his dog Riggs, and the thousands of kids he transported to and from school.
The family is respecting his wishes to not hold a service.
