Arthur "Dean" Colwell

A Man Who LIVED His Faith

Arthur "Dean" Colwell, 84, a loving and devoted Husband, Dad and Papa, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2019. Dean lived each day to the fullest. He was genuine, fun loving, hardworking and above all else, a true family man.

Dean was born in Petersburg, OH in 1934. He was the youngest of 6 children with his oldest sister being 18 years his senior. He lost his mother at the young age of 10, so many of his early years were spent being raised by his father, step mother and older sisters. Several years after graduating from high school Dean joined the Air Force and served 2 separate terms totaling 6 1/2 years. Towards the end of his Air Force career, he met his future wife, LaVon Cundy, in Belle Fourche, SD.

Dean and LaVon spent the first years of their married life in Ohio before moving to Mississippi to work with the NASA Space Program. While they were in Mississippi they lived through Hurricane Camille and had their first child, Richard Dean. Following Dean's work with the space program he settled into a career in the concrete industry as an operating engineer. They spent 6 years in Michigan where they had their daughter, Anita Marie, then settled in Aurora, Colorado, where they've been for the past 42 years.

Dean enjoyed being active and spending time with his family. He was an avid water skier, fisherman, hunter, camper, bowler, and servant of God. During his retirement years he was dedicated to missions trips to build homes in Juarez, tutor underprivileged children, mentor International students at the University of Denver in a Christian outreach program, and traveling to Indonesia and Israel with their church missions program.

Dean is survived by his wife of 52+ years, LaVon Colwell, son Richard (Kristen), daughter Anita (Scott), and 5 grandchildren, Zach, Megan, Ashley, Katerina and Ivan.

Memorial donations in memory of Dean can be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 15555 E. Quincy Ave. Aurora, CO 80015 and the Alzheimer's Association Colorado Chapter, 455 N. Sherman Street Suite 500 Denver, CO 80203.
