Deborah Lynn "Debbie" Smith (Rael), of Denver, died Saturday, July 27, 2019 from complications of MS.
She was born to the late Dan and Margaret Rael on July 30, 1956. They lived in the most beautiful home in the Five Points area of Denver at East 26th Avenue & Champa Street. Debbie attended Denver Public Schools, including Emily Griffith Opportunity School, where she got her license as a Cosmetologist.
She met her husband, Jerry, on the 16th Street Mall Shuttle on September 2, 1984. Debbie had her two kids and Jerry his two. They fell in love, were married and raised their children at their Glencoe Street home in East Denver. Every night before she went to sleep Jerry thanked her for getting on that Shuttle.
Debbie was a hairdresser for many years at Joslins and May D&F downtown. Debbie's life was marked by her remarkable kindness to anyone she met. She did the hair of famous actresses performing at the Denver Center to the cast of a handicapped ensemble where she refused payment. Debbie truly did love everyone. She became handicapped with MS in 2004 but never once complained. When Jerry was recently lamenting about her condition,
she looked at him and said "So what!".
She will be missed terribly by all her knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Smith; son Tim (Jenna) Esquibel, daughter, Twyla (Stacy) Esquibel, step-son, Louis (Jenny) Smith, step-daughter, Melissa Smith, her brother, Dan (Kendra) Rael, sister Bonnie (Rey) Contreras, brother David Rael, twelve grandchildren and three-great-grandchildren.
