Delores Hazel "Dodie" Baca

April 29, 1932 — June 21, 2024

Delores “Dodie” Hazel Baca, passed away on June 21, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born on April 29, 1932, in Denver, Colorado, to Loren Knight and Josephine Steinman.

In 1950, she graduated from West High School in Denver, where she met her loving husband, Adolph “Rudy” Baca. They married on April 21, 1952, and had three daughters.

In 1960, they moved to their home in Lakewood where they lived for 60 years. Dodie embraced the role of homemaker and doted on her three girls and the family dog, Skipper. You could find her happily gardening in the backyard while Skipper chased the birds. Dodie and Rudy traveled frequently to Las Vegas, where they loved to gamble, and to Branson, to enjoy live music. They loved square dancing together and her handmade ruffled dresses were beautiful. Dodie was always surrounded by many friends, whether it was at a bowling league at Bowlero, working on ceramics and scrapbooking, or playing cards. Later in life when they moved to assisted living, she played a mean game of poker with the guys!

Dodie and Rudy enjoyed their locally well-known round cabin Loren built in Grand Lake. You could always find them gathered there with family, especially on the Fourth of July. She enjoyed sitting outside observing all the wildlife living around the cabin. Idle hours boating and fishing on Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Reservoir are beloved memories for all. She taught her children and grandchildren to love the mountains as much as she did.

Dodie leaves behind a loving family: Rudy, her husband of 72 years and their daughters Sandra Lenz (Bob), Dianne Brush, Tammy Sugg (Rick); five grandchildren, Erin Kennedy, Jared Lenz, Haley Brush, Brianna Brush and Colin Sugg; also, two great-grandchildren, Brenna Kennedy and Liam Kennedy and nephew, Jeff Steinman (Sharon). She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ray Steinman.

A celebration of her remarkable life will be held at Newcomer, 901 South Sheridan Boulevard, Lakewood, Colorado, 80226, on Saturday, August 10, at 1:00pm.
