Diane Lanette Bailey

October 25, 1954 — November 30, 2024

Denver

Diane Lanette Bailey of Denver, CO (nee Phelps, nee Harvell), a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, wife, and friend went home to the Lord on Saturday, November 30th, 2024, at the age of 70.

Diane was born on October 25, 1954, in Denver, CO to Hobart Phelps Jr. and Christine Wilson (nee McClinton). As the oldest of four children, she helped care for her younger siblings by getting them ready for school, cooking, and cleaning while their mother was working. She graduated from Manual High School in 1972 and was very active in school activities including the girls’ choir and was a leader in the ROTC. She enjoyed attending events and games in high school and would even pick up other students as she drove down York Street on her way to games. She was also an Owl’s Club Debutante. After high school, she attended Colorado State University. In 1974 Diane married Webb Harvell III, and over 15 years of marriage, they welcomed three children. Diane was a great cook and was skilled at sewing. She hand-made clothing and home goods for her family. In 1984, Diane began working for Guaranty Bank and Trust as a Bank Teller, advancing to become manager over several branches.

From her early days growing up in Denver, throughout high school, and in her professional career, Diane was a fun-loving social butterfly who many say was the sweetest person they ever met. In 2006, Diane married Kevin Bailey whom she met while working at Guaranty Bank. They shared a love of music and travel and hosted many family gatherings at their Denver home. They enjoyed vacationing together, as well as traveling to visit Kevin’s family in New York and Diane’s family in California and Nevada. In 2019, Diane retired from banking after 35 years at Guaranty Bank.

Diane cherished her family deeply and is survived by her husband of 18 years, Kevin Bailey; her children Kionii Harvell, Kawen Harvell (Wendy Socia), and Janeen Harvell; and siblings Derrick Cummings (Tracy Cummings), Robin Hall, Sherry Edwards, and Tanya Ashurst. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Christine Wilson; her father, Hobart Phelps Jr.; and brothers Billy Cummings and Rasheed Allenton. Diane has seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose memory will live on through the stories, laughter, and values she instilled. Her children will remember her as a strong, God-fearing, kind, supportive, patient, and loving mother who provided words of spiritual encouragement and advice. Diane was always there for her children, at any time, and for anything they needed.

Diane appreciated spending time with friends and family going out to eat, attending Broncos games, and going to art and music festivals. Diane also loved music and dancing. She loved singing gospel songs, dancing to R&B, and teaching her children and grandchildren how to two-step in the kitchen. She was an active attendee of the Berean Bible Church of Denver, CO where she was a member of the church choir and the Women of Grace fellowship group.

The memorial service will be held at Living Waters Tabernacle at 1701 S. Sherman St, Denver, CO 80210 on Friday, December 20th, 2024, at 10:30 am, where family and friends will gather to honor her beautiful life and the indelible mark she has left on our hearts.

Let us find comfort in knowing that we will see you again. As you taught your children, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
