On Monday, October 14th 2019, our beloved Lillian Diane Evans passed away at age 72. She was born Lillian Diane Wood on September 29th, 1947 to Mark Decker Wood and Clare Elizabeth (Johnson) Wood in Sioux City, Iowa. The family lived in Vermillion, South Dakota while her father attended pre-medical school.
She is preceded in death by her father, Mark Decker Wood, mother, Clare Elizabeth (Johnson) Wood, sister, Halene Estelle (Helmuth) Thomas, niece, Clare Elizabeth Patterson, and nephew, Michael Scott Helmuth.
On May 12, 1984, Diane married the love of her life Guy Llewellyn Evans. They adored each other. They celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this year. They were a bird loving family and had numerous cockatiels over the years. Diane and Guy loved to travel, and visited many cities around the country, and in later years kept the tradition by traveling throughout Colorado to see its beauty.
Diane loved people and easily befriended co-workers, fellow patients, medical staff, and even bus drivers. She had a special gift of endearing people she met to her with her sparkling personality and nurturing spirit. She was kind, compassionate, caring, nurturing, forgiving, and generous. She exemplified "Charity never faileth". She was a selfless giver to others.
Diane had a wonderful sense of humor, and often made others laugh, but never made a joke at anyone else's expense. She loved animals, and adored children.
Diane lived in Aurora, Colorado. She attended Kenton Elementary School, William Smith Jr. High, and West Jr. High. She was the fourth sibling to attend Aurora Central High School. She was part of the Pep Club and the Silver Boot flag twirling ensemble that performed at school activities and sporting events.
After graduating from high school in 1965, Diane attended BYU and the University of Northern Colorado receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching the Special Needs Individual. Her brother Paul writes, "She had a pure heart and a genuine sense of empathy for the less fortunate. In the 1970's she moved to California and took a job as a teacher for the developmentally challenged in Camarillo, California. I went to the facility where she was teaching and I was impressed with her patience in dealing with those who were in her charge while at work." In 1976, she returned to Colorado and pursued a vocation in computer technology and accounting working at Frontier Airlines Credit Union and Colorado State Employees Credit Union. Diane was versatile, talented, and gifted. In all she pursued, she gave one hundred percent.
During her two and one half month hospital stay she was able to spend time with her beloved husband, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Her final moments were spent holding the hand of her younger brother, David.
We will miss you always, and love you forever, Diane.
