Donald Geronimo Gallegos, age 66, died at Porter Adventist Hospital on December 4, 2020, with his wife at his side, after weeks of medical complications. Donald was born April 17, 1954 in Las Vegas, NM, the oldest of five born to Andronico D Gallegos and Theresa A Baca (deceased). Donald was the loving husband of Joan Mutter and left behind multiple generations of family and numerous friends.
Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Navy stationed in San Diego CA. He spent the bulk of his life in and around the Denver area. He graduated from Adams City High School in Commerce City, CO and Luna Vocational Institute in Las Vegas, NM.
Donald worked as a professional driver for many years in numerous capacities primarily doing concrete work and driving tour buses around the country. He also spent a number of years in construction work and auto parts.
Don enjoyed getting up early with the sunrise to sit on the porch to pray and watch and feed the birds. He sat on the porch as often as he could throughout each day observing all of the comings and goings. He was a very good neighbor and was considered the local "Neighborhood Watch" wherever he lived. He was a mama's boy and cherished being able to elaborately decorate his homes for Christmas each year as he did with his mother when he was younger.
He loved camping in his RV and fishing not only around Colorado but in any state he visited. He savored sitting by an open fire either by his or the neighbors fire pit or when camping. His favorite hobby was being a jokester and making everyone laugh. He had an obsession for the Kansas City Chiefs football team and relished the competition between himself and his friends who were Bronco fans.
Don was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Baca.
He is survived by his father, Andronico of Las Vegas, NM; his wife, Joan; two brothers, Anthony and Eugene; two sisters, Theresanne (Armando) Mendez of Pontiac, MI and Dorothy Gallegos (Robert Gutierrez) of Las Vegas, NM; his children, Silvia Elena (Genaro Benitez), Carlos David (Monica), Sabrina Lee "Coco" (Patrick Navarre); stepdaughter, Chrysephanie "Chrys" Hamm; 24 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
