Donald Robuck

September 17, 1930 — December 16, 2023

Donald Elwin Robuck 93, of Denver passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023. He passed away at home, which was his life-long wish. He was born to the late Mary Pacotti on September 17, 1930, in Montrose, Colorado. When he was young, he always said he wanted to grow up to be a cowboy. He loved the ranch life, his horses, and all kinds of animals.

In 1949 he enlisted is the United States Air Force and was a Korean War Veteran honorably discharged in 1953. After the service, Don spent several years working in ladies retail at Neusteter's and Joslin's Department Stores in Denver and then went on to open his own ladies wear shops in Aurora and Boulder.
Don married Sharyn Manning in 1973 and they lived together in Aurora, Colorado for 50 wonderful years. They enjoyed traveling together on cruises to the Mediterranean, the Baltic Sea, and the Panama Canal to name a few.

In 1974, Don started his career as a landman in the Oil & Gas business before his entrepreneurial spirit led him to form his own company, Energy Search Company, where he served as President and CEO until he retired in 2015. He was an active member of the Rocky Mountain Petroleum Pioneers, Denver Petroleum Landman's Association, American Association of Professional Landmen and Independent Petroleum Association of America.

In addition to his work in the oil business, Don had a profound love of the National Western Stock Show. For many years, Don was a member of the National Western Stock Show Association and the Silver Spur Club which provides scholarship assistance to young people desiring to be veterinarians. He loved going to the National Western Club for cocktails with his friends as well as attending one of the last events, the Junior Livestock Auction.

Don enjoyed hunting and fishing as evidenced by several salmon fishing trips to Canada and a hunting trip to Mexico. His annual "big game dinner" was eagerly anticipated by his many friends. On a trip to the Caymans in January 1984, he caught a 584 lbs blue martin breaking the old record of 420 lbs. Don's World Record still stands and a life-size replica of his fish is mounted in the Cayman Islands Airport.

Don was a great cook and dearly loved preparing fabulous holiday meals for his friends and family. He enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren to Eagle Eye Ranch in Granby, Colorado, the site of many wonderful gatherings of friends and family reunions.

Don is survived by his wife, Sharyn and three children: Michal Kitsmiller of Aurora, Kimberly Elliot of Granby and Brek Robuck of Dallas. He enjoyed spending his free time with his eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Nedra Montonati and Carole Putman, and a brother, Bob Medearis.
