Donnie Ross Kier, known to his friends and family as Don, passed away on February 1, 2024, in Castle Rock, Colorado, at the age of 82. He was born on July 25, 1941, in Burlington, Colorado. Don was a devoted brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
Don attended Yuma Union High School in Yuma, Colorado, with his twin brother, Doyle, and his older brother, Darrel. When he was younger, Don worked on the Dillon Dam, where he met his wife, Patricia Cox of Old Dillon. They married in 1961 and had three children: December, Laura Lynn, and Scott. In 1969, the family relocated to Castle Rock, where Don and Patricia resided until his passing.
Don's career was marked by his service with the Denver Fire Department. He joined the department in 1967 and became a respected Captain. He dedicated himself to his work until his retirement in 1998.
Outside of his career, Don enjoyed various hobbies. He made many family memories by taking trips hunting with his son, brothers, and nephews. He loved to fish and frequently participated in competitions at Lake McConaughy and Lake Pueblo. After his retirement, Don and Patti traveled in their motorhome around the country and spent many winters in Arizona. As he grew older, Don took up golf and enjoyed woodworking and carving.
Don will be deeply missed by his surviving family members, including his wife, Patricia Kier of Castle Rock; his daughter, December Lucero, and son-in-law, Ed Lucero, of Parker; his daughter, Laura Lynn Franklin, of Denver; his son, Randall Scott Kier, and daughter-in-law, Sabina Kier, of Sedalia; his twin brother, Doyle Kier, and sister-in-law, Jane Kier; his sister-in-law, Connie Kier of Nebraska; his four grandsons: Trent Franklin, Aaron Franklin, Cooper Kier, and Bode Kier; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Inez Kier; his older brother, Darrel Kier; his son-in-law, Lance Franklin; and his nephew Mason Kier.
