Donnis Altberg passed away July 1, 2021, after a short illness and surrounded by her family. She was born in Liberal, Kansas in 1925. As a child she lived through the dust bowl and had many interesting stories about that chapter in history. As a teenager her family moved to Colorado where she attended school and graduated from Florence High School in 1943. It was there that she met her future husband, Vernon Altberg. During WWII she worked as a telephone operator in Florence and later spent time in California with her sisters while working for the State of California. She married her late husband, Vernon, in 1947 and they had three children, Greg (Penny) Altberg, Linda Pavalko and Debbie Sorensen. She was very proud of her family and is survived by her children, 4 grandchildren: Beth (Frank) Lousberg, John (Melinda) Pavalko, Sarah (Danny) Albi and Jamie (Chris) Sorensen Hatcher, 3 great-grandchildren: Paige and Zach Lousberg and Linnea Hatcher and many nieces and nephews and their extended families.
Donnis and Vern loved to travel. They visited every state in the union and many countries. After they retired they became "snow birds" spending winters at their home in Parker, Arizona. She never gave up her love to "go" taking her last road trip to Oklahoma in January to visit her granddaughter. She retired from being a teacher's aide where she made many life-long friends. She loved playing and watching golf and many other sports. She also enjoyed being outdoors, playing cards, sewing, knitting, painting, and many other crafts.
