Dorothy June Clements, June 8, 1924 - May 31, 2019
Dorothy June Clements, 94 years and 51 weeks young, died Friday, May 31, 2019. "Dottie" was born in America City, Kansas, to the late Herbert A. and Myrtle O. Post. She married Clinton E. Clements on June 9, 1946, and they lived in Denver throughout their life.
Dottie was raised on a farm near Havensville, Kansas. During high school, she sang alto with a trio of women who performed at community events. After graduating in 1941, she completed "Normal" teacher training and taught all grades for two years in America City and Bucks Grove, Kansas. In 1945, Dottie traveled by train to Washington, D.C., after reading an ad seeking workers to support the WWII effort. There, she worked as a clerk for the Air Force until the war ended. Later in life she worked as a cook for Denver Public Schools. The best parts of her life, she said, were the years spent raising her children.
Dottie loved family above all, and she is survived by Clinton, her husband of nearly 73 years, and by five children: Gregg (and LeeAnn), Carla, Bruce (and Cindy), Lisa and Lori. Dottie is also survived by eight beloved grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was dearly loved by extended family in Colorado and throughout the country, especially by her sister-in-law Phyllis Clements, who has done so much to care for Dottie in recent years and throughout their nearly 70 years together in Denver.
Dottie made lifelong friends wherever she went. She was active in her church and enjoyed water aerobics at the YMCA, Red Hats, Good Sam's Travel Group, the Mavericks, bowling and pinochle.
Dottie will be remembered for her eternal optimism, resilience, infectious laugh, delicious cooking, and incredible zest for life.
