Dorothy Williams, born in St. Louis, Missouri in August of 1940 was called mama from a very early age. Even her mother Ida Knox (who preceded her in death at age of 101) called her mama. Also, Dorothy was considered mama to her older brothers (James Knox, Ossa Knox, and Robert "Tariq" Knox who all preceded her in death). Even Dorothy's younger sister Vivian Whitsel (who preceded her in death) considered her a second mother at times.
Anyone who met her called her mama including all her children's (Linda, Jamil, Andrew, Omar; Melissa (Dean) Hines and her unnamed son who preceded her in death) friends.
Dorothy was a businesswoman creating and retiring from her own company of forty years. Her catering company extended beyond business to nurture and cater to the needs of others.
Even with her small stature Dorothy was a righteous fighter for truth with the Bible as her guide. As an avid reader, Dorothy's mind was huge with the places she went to within her books. She would often quote Epictetus "no man is free who is not master of himself." Her quotes and wisdom provided love and comfort to all those within her reach.
On her passing on March 11, 2021, Dorothy leaves a host of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, friends, and her beloved dog Ida.
