Date of Birth: August 11, 1951
Died on: December 27, 2018
Douglas Edward Herman, 67, of Aurora, CO died in his home. He was born in Hoven, SD to LeVern and Anna (Frost) Herman. He grew up in Aberdeen, SD, and was the fourth of twelve children. He worked in the family business, Herman House Moving until he moved to Denver in the fall of 1981. In Denver, he worked for Ryberg House Moving and then for J & S Contractors for over 30 years until the time of his death.
Doug was a creative artist. He could draw, invent, design and build anything. He made decorative signs, furniture, decks, holiday decorations, finished basements and much more. He was unable to sit still; he was always "up to something". He was a roller-skater, skier, a collector of "clowns" and a friend to everyone. No one was immune from his joking, but his warm sense of humor made it easy to be in his company. When you met Doug, by appearances, you would be uncertain who you would be meeting as he was often dressed in bib overalls, a flannel shirt, and pocket tees with his long hair, fu manchu mustache and earrings. Then he would smile, draw you into conversation and soon be giving you a hard time.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents LeVern & Anna Herman; brother, Ronald "Pete" Herman; and sister, Kathy Vance.
Grateful for having shared Doug's life are his son: Paul Herman (Erica) of Johnstown, CO; his daughters: Janel Amys (Dean) of Poplar, WI; and Sophie Herman of Aurora, CO; grandchildren: Donny Amys, Jaclyn Amys, Abby Herman and Ben Herman.
Other survivors include brothers; James (Kathi) of Aberdeen, SD; Calvin of Lakewood, CO; Richard (Gerri) of Brooklyn Park, MN; Michael of Aberdeen, SD; John of Hopkins, MN; Robert (Kathleen) of Maricopa, AZ; and Scott (Wanda) of Aberdeen, SD; and sisters, Linda Jensen of Minnetonka, MN; and Nicki Herman of Aberdeen, SD.
