Beloved husband of Lois Summerville, married June 12, 1993.
Treasured son of Egbert Loveland Rothermund and Geraldine Olga Tolhurst.
Cherished step-father of Liza (husband Nate), Erica, Lance (wife, Lanette) and six wonderful grandchildren: Landon, Lanae, Lane, Garrett, Falan and Emmelise.
Adored brother of Dianne Ruth Rothermund.
Much loved special cousin of Karl Harris (Holly) Rothermund, June Beth Burrier, Barbara Murray, Marsha (Tom) Phillips.
Doug inherited his dad's great sense of humor and positive outlook on life, always happy and able to see the good side of everything. He loved playing golf and flying airplanes. He said that one day while he was playing golf an airplane flew overhead, at that moment he decided that these two most favorite things for him to do in life would be his vocation as well as his avocation. Doug started corporate flying initially then flew commercially for Florida Express , Braniff , and Direct Air/Midway Connection. He enjoyed working in the training program at United Airlines. His partnership in "Aviation West Charters, Inc." also attests to his passion but his golf handicap remains unknown.
The real love of his life was his wife, his soul-mate, and best friend – Lois. They met each other later in life but made up for lost time by filling each day with deep and committed devotion and caring.
Doug loved being a "step-dad" and took to the role of "step-granddad" with all the enthusiasm and love one could have.
He was always very proud of his sister, Dianne, and although they lived thousands of miles apart they held each other close in their hearts.
He loved to be with his brother/cousin, Karl/Seabee, and spend time together at the cabin in Payson, AZ and other prize fishing spots. They had a special bond that is a lasting gift for both of them.
"I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one,
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is gone.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times, and laughing times, and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun,
And crystallize the memories left now that my life on earth is done."
