Centennial, CO – Roger E. Andersen died September 7, 2007, in his home.
Born March 6, 1931, in Spearfish, S.D., to Nels and Katie (Evers) Andersen, Roger was the youngest of ten children. He participated in football, track, basketball and baseball throughout school, graduating from Spearfish High School in 1949. He attended South Dakota State College on a football scholarship from 1949-1953, earning a B.S. in Pharmacy. Roger was a pharmacist at Blue Drug in Spearfish for about two years.
On September, 11, 1955, Roger wed Charlotte Anderson of Lead, S.D. They had three children, Stephen, Diane and Janet. In 1958, he and Char worked to put him through dental college at the University of Iowa, where he received a D.D.S. Degree in 1961. He practiced dentistry in Lead, S.D. for 30 years. In 1996, he sold his practice, and they moved to Aurora, CO, to be near daughters and grandchildren.
Roger was active in many organizations including the United Methodist Church, Kiwanis, Lead 4th of July Festival, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a Life Member of the South Dakota Dental Association, and co-chairman of the S.D. Dental Association for the legislative campaign that brought state-wide fluoridation to countless generations of children and adults. He also enjoyed fishing and golf.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlotte; daughter Diane Kalsow; daughter and son-in-law Janet and David Miller; five grandchildren Christopher Wilcox, Derek Kalsow, Stacy Wilcox, Tyler Kalsow, and Lauren Miller; brothers Junior Andersen and Nels Andersen; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters in law Sandy (Bill) Mapel and Evelyn Anderson. He was preceded in death by son Stephen R. Andersen, parents Nels and Katie Andersen, six sisters and one brother, Ralph.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 14th at Smoky Hill United Methodist Church, 19491 East Smoky Hill Road, Centennial, CO, Reverend Marti Zimmerman officiating.
