Duane A. Lownsberry died surrounded by family at St. Anthony's Central Hospital in Denver, Colorado on Thursday, September 16, 2010. He was born February 18, 1932, the first born son of Orville A. and Mildred E. (nee La Barr) Lownsberty, in Sioux City, Iowa. He married Ruth A. Porter on September 7, 1952 at The First Evangelican Lutheran Church in Bismarck, N.D. After graduating from USD Vermillon, in June of 1954, he worked a short time for the Federal Government as a CPA in Washington, D.C. On December 12, 1954 he ws enlisted in to the Army and stationed in El Paso, TX until his honorable discharge on December 12, 1956. Shortly thereafter he joined the General Accounting Office as a Supervisory Auditor and sent to Denver, CO where he resided until his death. He will always be remembered as the loving husband of Ruth for the last 58 years, and the loving father of three daughters: Marilyn Kay, Janet Ruth and Gayle Anita.
He was preceded in death by his mother (Mildred, 02/15/1973) and father (Orville, 07/09/1975). He is survived by his wife Ruth; Marilyn (Gerald) Heitmann of Lakewood, CO, their children James L. Kathi (Jerry) Lovett and grandson Kenny Ulin IV; Janet (Dave) Alspach of Vista, CA, their chidren David (Nadine), Michelle (Derick) Tucker and grandchildren Hannah, Hailey, Meaghan, and Adam Alspach; Jacob, Sarah and Ethan Tucker: Gayle Singleton of Vista, CA, her daughter Melisa and grandson Jonah and his brother Lee O. (Barbara) Lownsberry of Centennial, CO their children Eric (Kelly), Krista (Matt) Lewis and grandchildren Ryan and Kara Lownsberry; and Hannah and Kayla Lewis.
Duane was a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, as well as a choir member and Treasurer for thiry years. He was also a member of the BPOE #17, an avid Rockies, Bronco and Avalanche fan. After his retirement in 1988 he was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, SHARE Colorado and supporter of Jeffco Action Center, Brothers Redevelopment and Special Olympics.
Duane will always be remembered for his warm smile, quick wit, and loving heart.
