Earl Edward Cayou

October 3, 1934 — July 22, 2024

Earl Edward Cayou of Littleton, CO, passed away peacefully at St. Anthony's Hospital on Monday, July 22, 2024.

Earl spent almost his entire life in Denver and called Colorado his home. He graduated from West High School where he met his life-long love, Patricia Sackett. Earl and Pat were married in 1952 (and again in 1965!) and raised their two children, Kathryn and Stephen, in several different neighborhoods in the west Denver area.

Earl joined the Denver Fire Department in June 1962 and spent the next 33 years as a dedicated fireman. He would jokingly tell you he couldn't afford to leave, but, truthfully, he enjoyed the fellowship of the department and was proud to be an affiliated lifetime member.

Earl spent his final decades in the beautiful Dakota Ridge Townhome community where he served on the HOA Board and edited the HOA newsletter for several years, played bridge for a few years, and enjoyed afternoon cocktails with his good neighbors. He struggled with COPD in his final years, finally succumbing to that disease in July. He will be remembered for his sharp intellect, witty sense of humor, and kind and generous heart; and he will be dearly missed.

Earl is predeceased by his father, mother and sister (Dewey, Lilian and Virginia Cayou), his beloved wife Pat, and his son-in-law Ted Wendell. He is survived by his children Kathy Wendell and Steve (Kris) Cayou; six grandchildren [Adrienne Wendell, Nick (Tammy) Cayou, Amy (Jake) Patterson, Taylor (Alex) Maret, Zach Cayou, Breanna (Mark) Adams]; and nine great-grandchildren.

Earl will be interned at LaVeta Cemetery next to Pat in a private family ceremony later this year. In lieu of flowers, please support your local fire department.
