Mr. Eddie L. Whittaker, son of the late Johnny Whittaker and Aileen Cole was born on May 12, 1940 in Cleveland, Mississippi. At the age of 7, he moved to Chicago with his dad and step-mom, Mary. It was in his young years he gave his heart to the Lord at New Hope Baptist Church in Chicago Heights. Then at the age of 17, he joined the United States Air Force to become a cop. While serving two terms in Vietnam he was a part of the 1041st Air Force Rangers in the Special Operations Group. He fought honorably to defend his country and protect his fire teams and combat units. In 1980, he retired from the Air Force and became a Federal Police Lieutenant at the U.S. Mint in Denver, Colorado with the United States Department of Treasury. In 1986, he graduated from Columbia College with a Degree in Criminal Justice. He retired from the Denver Mint in 1998. He was a phenomenal cook and made the best beans, bbq and savory sauces. He enjoyed taking long road trips in his red Cadillac, listening to Doo Wop and singing gospel music by the Reverand James Cleveand. He loved to laugh, prank and "ghetto rig" any and everything. He had words of wisdom for all occasions. He was quiet but deep and methodical. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
He was united in holy matrimony to Geneva Darlene O'Hair on June 19, 1976. His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children, step-children and family: Charlé (Eric) Truesdale, Step-Children: Sheridan (Freida) Nusum, Lewis (Linda) Nusum, Grandchildren: Caleb Truesdale, Sheridan Nusum Jr., Shannon Nusum. Nephews and Nieces: Eddie (Marina) Hollins, Emma Hollins, Shannon (Adrian) Davis-Hollins, Angela (Tommy) Bobbitt, Daniel Bobbit, Siblings: Preceded in death: Ethel Hollins, Eddie Cole and Jane Simpson.
Eddie had a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
