Edith Ann Rathbone Shaw
of Denver, Colorado
August 6 1937 – January 21, 2023
Edith Ann was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, to Harold Lansing Rathbone, from Elizabeth, West Virginia, and Lexie Hildra Hoopengarner Rathbone from Shirley, West Virginia. She graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1955. She attended the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Parkersburg, and after graduating in 1957, she worked as a nurse in the pediatric unit at Camden-Clark until she joined the Air Force Nurse Corps in 1960. She was assigned to the Air Force Hospital with the 3550th Pilot Training Wing at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia, where she married Captain Thomas Shaw, a flight instructor also assigned to the 3550th Pilot Training Wing, in 1960. She was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1961 as a Second Lieutenant when she was expecting her first child.

She moved several times with her young family during her husband's Air Force career, beginning with Selma, Alabama, where her first two children were born and her husband was deployed to Viet Nam; then to Omaha, Nebraska and then Enid, Oklahoma, when her husband was deployed to Korea, and where her last child was born. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri and then finally to Denver, Colorado in 1974 as her husband's last assignment before he retired from the Air Force.

She was a loving and dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her life. She was active with her church and involved with her children's school activities and served as an assistant leader for the Girl Scouts. She loved cooking and making a home for her family, and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafts. She also volunteered with Children's Hospital in Denver and in the activities departments at several nursing homes, visiting and creating crafts with the residents.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Lexie Rathbone, and sisters Shirley and Georgia Hochstrasser of Parkersburg, West Virginia. She is survived by her son, Thomas Shaw, Jr., of Van Buren Township , Michigan and her daughters Jennifer Shaw of Chicago, Illinois and Elizabeth Shaw of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and her grandchildren Trent Rathbone Stockwell of St. Paul, Minnesota, Lexie Millard of Bremerton, Washington, Nicholas Quintana of San Francisco, California, and Aaron Whitaker of Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

She will be laid to rest with her mother and sisters at Hope Cemetery in Albion, Pennsylvania.
