Edna Marie Sheldon, 98, of Denver, passed away on November 11, 2023.
She was born on December 5, 1924 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, the eighth of thirteen children born to Birgous and Mary Quillin. Her family moved back to Gary, Indiana in the late 1920's. Edna was a hard worker from an early age, scrubbing floors for 5 cents for neighbors. She was a graduate of Tolleston High School. On August 6, 1943, she married Allen Sheldon. While Allen was overseas during the war, she worked as a bookkeeper for J.L. Blank Trucking Company. Following the war, they lived in Indiana and had four boys. In 1964, they relocated to Denver, Colorado and boy number five arrived in 1969. Edna worked as a bookkeeper and later as a nurse's aide at several retirement centers, all the while providing extraordinary care for her son Danny, who lived with her until her passing.
Edna was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church and the Kai-Mar Bible Study. She enjoyed travelling to visit family and attend reunions. She was also an avid bowler and participated in women's leagues for many years.
Edna is survived by four children, Edward (Sue); Robert; Daniel; and Tim (Lisa). She is also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Allen, her son, Gerald, and 12 siblings.
Visitation will be 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, followed by the service at 1:00 PM, both at Newcomer - East Metro Chapel, 190 Potomac Street, Aurora, CO 80011, and Interment at 2:30, PM, Fairmount Cemetery, 430 South Quebec Street, Denver CO 80247. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
