Edward J. White

February 3, 1945 — February 10, 2022

Edward James White, 77, of Englewood, died Thursday, February 10, 2022. He was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts to James Joseph White and Mary Catherine White (Shaunessey), February 3, 1945.

Ed attended Annunciation Catholic School in East Boston and graduated from English High School in Boston Massachusetts in 1963. His first job was as a bookkeeper in a fish company down on the piers in Boston. He attended Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts, at night and majored in accounting.
Ed auditioned for the United States Air Force Academy Drum and Bugle Corp in Boston. He did basic training in San Antonio, Texas and reported for duty at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs in 1965. During his tour of duty, he hired a young waitress at a Mexican restaurant where he worked part time and she waited tables for him for fifty-four years.

Ed and Connie were married at St. Mary's Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado on December 18, 1967. After a short honeymoon to Boston, they lived in Colorado Springs while Ed finished his service in the Air Force.

Ed and Connie lived in Boston for several years where they added Joseph Edward to their family. In 1971 they drove a 1957 Chevy, pulling a U-Haul trailer with all their worldly possessions back to Colorado and settled in Englewood in their "starter home".

In 1973 Ed, Connie and Joseph joined Holy Name Catholic Parish and began a new life with a loving extended family. One of Ed's volunteer projects was picking up films from the Archdiocese office and transporting them to Holy Name on his motorcycle, to be shown in C.C.D. classes on the weekend. Ed loved playing in the church bridge marathon for many years.

Mary Catherine joined the family in 1975 and Joseph Edward died in 1977.

Ed attended Metropolitan State College at night, graduating in 1979 with a BS in Accounting.

Peter Vincent White joined the family in 1980. He was the bundle of joy who arrived because of the brave decision of a sixteen-year-old girl to give her baby up for adoption. Ed was more active taking care of Peter's physical needs than he was with the other kids because Connie was in college going to night school. She would prepare dinner and take the kids to Ed's office. He would meet them and take the kids home on RTD for dinner and homework. He attended all parent teacher conferences, music performances, plays and sports activities for eight years.

Most of Ed's working career in Colorado was with the State of Colorado. He worked at the Health Sciences Center, for the Human Services department and for the Health Care Policy Analysis and Finance Department. He retired January 31, 2002.

When Ed retired, he fulfilled a lifelong dream. He purchased a Harley Davidson Motorcycle and joined the Harley Owners Group in Littleton. He found a new brotherhood and sisterhood and was active for many years helping with charity projects and safety projects for the chapter.

The motorcycle continued to be part of Ed's life as he and Connie traveled to all fifty states in the United States and to the maritime provinces of Canada. Their travel philosophy was to begin planning the next trip on the way home from the current trip. Ed was quoted as saying, many times, "Retirement comes in two stages, your go-go years and your no-go years." He made the best of both.

Edward is survived by his wife, Connie of Englewood, one daughter, Mary Catherine Graham of Littleton, Colorado, son-in-law, Jason Graham, and two grandchildren, Natalie and Garrett. Ed is preceded in death by his parents James and Mary White, son Joseph Edward White, and son Peter Vincent White.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Holy Name Catholic Church, 3290 W. Milan, Englewood, Colorado 80110.
