Eleanor M. Rice

Eleanor Rice was born on May 17, 1935, in Dewey County, South Dakota. Her family eventually moved to Hardin, Montana, where she attended and graduated from high school. In 1953, her first daughter, Karen, was born, and in 1959, her son, Kevin, was born. In the 1960's, she moved with her 2 children to Aurora, CO., to begin a new life. In 1963, she met and married Ronald Rice. Later, in 1967, their daughter, Kim was born.
Eleanor raised 3 children and began her career as the postmaster for Watkin, CO., which lasted for 22 years when she retired in 1992. When she wasn't busy with her family and with her job, she became interested and very accomplished in ceramics. She painted and finished so many beautiful pieces which she shared with her family and friends, and she continued with this craft until recently when her eyesight became so limited that she could no longer continue. But the pieces that she left behind will remind us of her and her talents.
She was very active in the postmasters auxiliary league and was designated as a delegate to many of the national conferences. She loved to attend and very often took her family to many different cities in the country. This may have led to her "travel bug". Eleanor visited every state in the country with exception of Alaska, taking her family, grandchildren and sometimes nieces and nephews. She also visited many foreign countries including China, England, German, Italy and more.
Another one of her favorite activities, was stamp collecting. She has beuatiful binders full of first editions by when the stamps were released for many years. She also started these collections for her grandchildren and now they will be passed down to them to remember her by.
Eleanor's death was preceded by her parents, Carl and Thresa Boheman, and her husband, Ron in February of this year. She leaves behind daughter, Karen Petersen, son Kevin Rice and wife Suzannah, and daughter Kim Kauffman. Grandchildren include Ceri Anderson, Cody Petersen and wife Breanne, Sarah Rice, Hamzah Rice, Kelsy Kauffman, and Brian Kauffman. Great-granchildren are Kyla Wait and Adam Petersen. She also leaves behind her sister, Marie Kruger and brother Carl Boheman and many very special nieces and nephews and their children with whom she loved spending time with.
