Elizabeth A. "Betty" Johnson

January 31, 1941 — November 9, 2019

Elizabeth A. Johnson, known to her friends as "Betty" passed away peacefully at The Denver Hospice on the morning of Saturday November 9. 2019. She was born Elizabeth A. Barry in Adair Oklahoma on January 31, 1941. She is survived by husband Joseph, children Tom, Andrew and Ann (Mike). She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lorene Barry and her brother Clarence Jr. While growing up in Oklahoma, her family frequently moved and as such she attended several schools to finally graduate from Will Rogers High in Tulsa. After various jobs and adventures (and some misadventures) she chased down (her words) Joseph Johnson and they were married in Texas on November 6, 1964. After leading the itinerant life of many airline employees, they eventually moved to Colorado after the merger of Central and Frontier Airlines. There they made and maintained a life together. She built a career as a roller skating instructor and sometime competitor. She was a fixture in roller rinks in Colorado and was well known in artistic roller skating circles. She was also an accomplished seamstress, sewing skating costumes, doll dresses, purses and especially jackets, hats and other items from fleece. Sometimes it was like she was running her own garment factory (although she referred to it as her "therapy"). But it was as a grandmother that she really shined and she was able to enjoy and spoil, her beloved grandchildren, Evan, Tara and Marc for many years. We hope that she laces up her skates once more, to glide through the pearly gates.
