Elsie Mae Baker

February 25, 1925 — June 1, 2020

Elsie Mae Baker, 95, of Arvada, passed away June 1, 2020.

She was born on February 25, 1925 in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Rose (Galyen) Morton. Elsie was one of ten children While growing up, the family lived in Nebraska. They lived so far out in the country that the family had to rent a room closer to the school for the kids, in order for them to attend school.

Later, the family moved to Yuma, Colorado.

In her younger years, Elsie loved to go to a dance hall called the "Sheep Shed". She danced there every Saturday and Sunday. Elsie loved music and dancing. This is where she met her husband, George. Later, they were married in Kansas.

After she and George were married, they rented a farm for a while. Later, they moved to the homestead, where George farmed with his Dad. During these times, the couple had four children, Carroll, Rosodae, Gordon and Tommy. Later on the family moved to Otis, Colorado, as they were either hailed out or as a result of the dust bowls.

One thing that Elsie insisted on was that her children were educated and received their diplomas, and they all did.

Elsie enjoyed her vacations and couldn't wait to travel. Her and her husband traveled, sometimes for two weeks at a time, and spent a lot of time vacationing in the mountains. On weekends she loved spending time at the "flea market." Elsie loved animals and had cats, strays and also squirrels. She loved to go shopping and her big thing was jewelry.

Elsie is survived by her children, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.
