The friends and family of Emiko Ripley, 95, are saddened to announce her passing on June 23, 2023. Emiko was kind and generous, always taking food to and visiting friends when they were unable to go out themselves. She was a proud homemaker who enjoyed cooking, collecting recipes, gardening, knitting, and many other crafts. She also was a talented artist who will be remembered for her beautiful bunka embroidery pieces that will be enjoyed by many generations to follow.
Born in 1928 in a small town near Hiroshima, Japan, Emiko survived the 1945 atomic bombing and the many hardships of postwar Japan. But through perseverance and her independent spirit, she eventually earned a job as an English typist (not even knowing the language) in a warehouse near Camp Zama in Tokyo to help with her family's finances. There she met and married her husband Jim of 47 years. Jim and Emiko transferred to several cities at the beginning of their marriage due to Jim's army career. But they eventually landed in Aurora, Colorado, after his army retirement. There Jim and Emiko created a strong community of friends and neighbors who they cherished.
Emiko was preceded in death by her husband, Jim. She is survived by her sister Fusako Inada, son Gene (Sally) Ripley, grandson Adam (Sarah) Ripley, stepson Neal (SueAnn) Ripley; grandchildren Bradd (Erin) Ripley, and Sharen Keck; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A private family service will be held to honor Emiko's life. Contributions in her memory can be made to Disabled American Veterans or Habitat for Humanity.
