Emma Lee (Chance) Smith was born March 26, 1936 in Lone Oak, Texas, the first child of Bennie & Willie Lee (Blaylock) Chance. Emma was blessed with a little sister, Betty 17 months after her birth. Lubbock and Dallas were the cities where Emma spent her youth. She graduated in 1956 from Dunbar High School in Lubbock, Texas. Robert James Smith, Sr., came into her life when she was 14 years old, and they were married on December 28, 1954. Five children were blessed to the union of their marriage, Robert J. Smith, Jr., Broderick J. Smith, La Wanda Smith, Anthony J. Smith, Donnell J. Smith. Emma was an active member of the Spotts Wood AME Zion Church for over 20 years, where she served on the Usher Board. Emma helped to support her family as a manager at Sears & J.C. Penney, in both Denver and Houston. Emma went home on November 23, 2009, having attained the age of 73 years, 7 months and 28 days. She is survived by her husband of 54 years: Robert J. Smith, Sr.; sister: Betty Simpson; children: Robert J. Smith, Jr. & wife Rosemary; Broderick J. Smith & wife Robin; La Wanda Smith; Anthony J. Smith & wife Kim; Donnell J. Smith & wife Gretchen; grandchildren: La Shondra Smith; Matthew Smith; Jessica Smith; Ashli Smith; Beau Smith; Bailey Smith; Kohbie Smith; many beloved family & friends.
