ERROL GLENFORD VERMONT, was born November 28, 1948 in Falmouth, Jamaica he died Saturday, July 1, 2023, after a long battle with Cancer.
His Father, Noel George Vermont held the privileged position of Overseer for the Lottery Estate, the largest Agricultural concern in the Parish of Trelawny, Jamaica. His mother, Marie Malcolm Dunbar was a nurse. He graduated from the William Knibb High School and Tutorial College in Kingston, and subsequently Sacred Heart and Bridgeport University's in Connecticut, earning his BS in Industrial Engineering. He continued his studies at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Errol quickly discovered that his education and skills as an Industrial Engineer were greatly in demand and he made a pledge to himself and his family to live "all over America" as he would relocate to the best and most lucrative job appointments offered. This lead to stints with multiple top international engineering and defense contractor firms throughout the United States, including Sikorsky, Gulfstream Aerospace, Ford Motor Company and Lockheed Martin among others. Errol made good on his pledge by living and working in Detroit, Savannah, as well as here in Denver where he met and married his wife of over thirty years, Valeria Lavallais Vermont, who pre-deceased him.
Together Val and Errol founded Divine Journey Church and its associated non-profit devoted to support of families struggling with Kidney Failure. Errol's motto came to be "Making mistakes is better than faking perfection," - which he embodied both in his blended family life with his and Val's children and Church community and in his continued vocation after retiring from Industrial Engineering as he founded Vertec Services, providing employment opportunities for his extended family.
The Lavallais-Vermont family surmounted insufferable challenges, including the murder of their daughter, our sister LaTanya and the subsequent trial and disruption of family friendships and congregational discord all borne with equanimity and grace, only to be followed by the added tragedies of Val's kidney and transplant failures. And after all that, through the storm Errol remained congenial, helpful and generous to a fault accepting all challenges and affronts with clear eyed knowledge and patient fortitude wanting only to walk the way of the Lord and encouraging all others to follow his example.
Three times Errol was confronted with the diagnosis of three different cancer illnesses, only to bear the devastation with his worldly good humor and charity for all, truly demonstrating the patience of Job. Would that we all might be as strong, steadfast and true, this world would be a far better place. Errol accepted the Lord Jesus into his life and became Pastor to many of us gathered here today. All whom he touched will be forever blessed by his time with us, and the example he showed us. Who among us dare betray his righteousness in our own lives and dealings with one another?
