Ervin (Dub) Dean Tuxhorn, 91, of Byers, CO, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Inman, KS. He was born March 14, 1933 at Stratton, CO, the son of Edward Herman and Emma Augusta (Belau) Tuxhorn. He attended schools in Byers, CO, later obtaining a GED and an associate degree in fire science. Ervin served his country in the US Navy for four years during the Korean War, working as an aircraft mechanic maintaining the first jets on three different aircraft carriers, the Yorktown, the Princeton and the Philippian Sea. He enjoyed seeing many foreign cities and countries including the Philippines, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Japan.
Ervin married Ludabelle Pitts on June 22, 1956, sharing 56 years of marriage. Ervin was a fireman for the Denver Fire Department for 27 years. During his tenure he was promoted from a fireman, to an engineer, lieutenant, captain and a temporary roving assistant chief. He worked at several fire stations around the Denver area. His favorite was Station #3 which was near the five points area in downtown Denver. The station is still in use today. He also enjoyed his granddaughters, raising cattle with his boys, talking politics, and taking care of his dog, Missy.
Ervin is survived by his two sons, Richard (Barbara) Tuxhorn of Inman, KS, and Bruce Tuxhorn, Byers, CO; grandchildren Allison (Jesus) Mulato of Golden, CO, and Madison Tuxhorn of Inman, KS; great grandchildren, Hayden and Emery Mulato of Golden, CO; and brother Charles (Lacy) Tuxhorn of Chesapeake, VA; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ludabelle; brothers and sisters, Lawrence Tuxhorn, Wanda (Langford) Ebert, Fern Cole, Everett Tuxhorn, and Harold Tuxhorn.
A memorial service will be held at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church Thursday, January 16, 2025, in Byers, CO with a viewing service at 10:00am and a memorial service at 11:00am. Burial will be directly after the service at the Byers Cemetery. Friends and relatives will be able to meet with the family for a time after the graveside service back at the church.
