Ervin L. Meyer passed away peacefully in Wheat Ridge, Colorado on May 30, 2020.
Erv, as he was called, was born July 14, 1928, the son of Edward J. and Anna (Wunderlich) Meyer, on the family farm twelve miles west of Frederick, South Dakota.
At an early age Erv trusted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He grew up on the farm and received his elementary education in Rural McPherson County School.
Because of the shortage of teachers, after graduating from Frederick High School in 1946, he taught in the local elementary school for one year.
On November 28, 1950 Erv enlisted in the United States Air Force and served two years in the States and two years in Japan reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After receiving an honorable discharge in 1954 he served with The Navigators at Colorado Springs from 1955 until 1957. He graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management in 1961. At that time he dedicated his life to serving the Lord full time. He began working in the office of Overseas Christian Servicemen's Centers and went to Japan as a missionary in 1963.
While in Japan he met missionary Elsie Grenz of Napoleon, South Dakota. They were married in Japan in 1968 and ministered together to American servicemen in Japan most of the next 26 years. They retired in Denver in 1994.
Erv was preceded in death by his wife Elsie in 1999. He is survived by a niece, Gilberta "Gil" Schaenzle, locally, of Evergreen, Colorado and numerous other nieces and nephews across the United States.
Private burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
