Eugene (Gene) Francis Deges, 83, of Aurora, CO passed away Wednesday September 13, 2023.
He was born in Grainfield< KS on May 19, 1940, to the late George and Odella Deges. Gene was the fifth of seven children.
Gene met the love of his life, Joan Berens, a Collyer, KS girl, when he rode his family's horse into town one Sunday afternoon. The rest is history. They were married on June 18, 1960, and recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Gene spent 20 years in the United States Air Force as a computer operator retiring in 1983. He continued to work for another 30 years in various jobs as he was never one to sit still for very long.
Gene was a devout catholic and volunteered for a great number of organizations including the St. Andrews soup kitchen, Special Olympics, and the Queen of Peace Knights of Columbus. Gene loved to travel and experience new things and he and Joan visited 33 countries and approximately 40 states.
Gene is survived by four children: Dan and Brenda Deges of Lancaster, CA; David and Charles Deges of Kea'au, HI; Paulette and Kevin McElrath of Kiowa, CO; and Pam and Mark Krzeczowski of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The Dementia Society of America, Donate | Dementia Society of America.
