Evangeline "Van" M. Lindamood
Evangeline "Van" Lopez-Lindamood, 73, of Golden, Colorado passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2009. She is survived by her husband Bernard "Jim" Lindamood, the love of her life since they were married in 1960. Van and Jim survived their only daughter, Sallie, who did not survive child birth.
For 49 years, together they enjoyed the beauty of Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain region, and travel to various scenic areas for extended camping and boating adventures. Their passion for Denver Broncos football was incredibly strong and loyal as fans. She cheered for, and kept abreast of, most Denver area sports professional and college teams, but had a life long very passion for Notre Dame and its football team. Van loved her four legged, furry, "children" named Molly and Rudy, who will sorely miss her.
Van was knowledgeable and informed on most current events by reading daily newspapers; books and articles; listening to radio shows; and watching television. She enjoyed rigorous discussions and respected the view points of others, even when they were not totally aligned with her beliefs (religious, political, or otherwise).
Van was a devoted parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Golden, where she volunteered her time, with others, to crochet blankets and clothing articles for those in need, and for new infants into our world. Often times she would prepare meals and deliver them to neighbors, friends and family in need, even those she did not know, but was asked to help and offer some comfort in the lives of the needy.
Van was born in Taos, New Mexico in 1936 to Mariano Lopez and Amalia Zavala – Lopez. She was the second oldest of four children and preceded into heaven in 2004 by her older sister Pauline Lopez-Amos (Taos, NM). Her surviving younger brother is Edward M. Lopez (Denver, CO); and younger sister Charlotte Lopez – Taylor (Taos, NM). A cousin raised with her in her early childhood is Joe Dionicio Romero (Taos, NM). Her large extended family consists of aunts/uncles, nieces/nephews, cousins, and one God son, Robert G. Taylor (Houston, TX) stretches throughout northern New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, and Virginia.
Van graduated from Taos High School in 1955, at which time she moved to Denver to attend Central Business College and became a secretary, bookkeeper, and computer operator. She was the Pay Roll Clerk at the Fairmont Hotel. She met Jim Lindamood and was married in 1960.
A Mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 17th at St. Joseph Catholic Church (969 9th Avenue), located at the corner of Ulysses and 9th Avenue in Golden, CO. Following the mass, guests are invited to a meal to meet with Van's family and friends at the VFW #4171, located nearby at 15625 W. 10th Avenue, also in Golden, CO. At Van's request, her remains are to be cremated with a private burial to be schedule at a later date.
Our sincere gratitude to the physicians, nursing staff and aides, and therapists, at St. Anthony's Hospital and Wheat Ridge Manor for their loving attentive care they provided. The family wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation and love for long time neighbor Noreen Moore, and friends Rosemary and Larry Flori and family.
