She made Christmas and holidays a really big deal. She had a memory like an elephant. She carried herself like a lady with dignity and respect. She had a quiet way of praying for her children, and giving them over to the Lord. She held crying mothers from the neighborhood in her arms as they wept for lost loved ones. She showed kindness to those in need, and took no nonsense from anyone! Her heart's memories were as vast as the ocean. She is our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Friend, and left her incredible legacy in the lives of her Children and Grandchildren.
Evelyn Joyce Holiday entered life on May 21, 1929, and entered eternal life on Saturday, April 25, 2020. She was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Melvin Eugene Holiday and Naomi Ethel Mae Toney-Madison. Her life is carried on by her four Children, twelve Grandchildren, and eighteen Great-Grandchildren.
As a child, Evelyn enjoyed riding horses and reading. Her favorite cousin, Hazel, was a basketball player, but not Evelyn, she just kept score because it was the best position on the team for a short person. She attended the nation's first degree-granting Historically Black College and University, Lincoln University, in Jefferson City, Missouri as a Math Major. Shortly after attending, she met and married Charles Lincoln Beauman III, in 1947. The couple relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1952 from St. Louis, Missouri.
Being the only child, Evelyn always wanted a lot of children, and that's exactly what God blessed her with. She taught her children a love for Christ, discipline, hard work, excellence, kindness, gratefulness, to dream big, stick up for themselves, and to stay together. They grew up looking out for one another and neighbors. As a mother she devoted a lot of her time working closely with her children, and grandchildren. Evelyn also cared for, and devoted time taking care of her aging mother. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, and absolutely loved bringing joy to everyone. She had a special way of making sure that Santa knew what was on everyone's list.
Evelyn retired from the United States Postal Service after working five years part-time and 17 years full-time in 1997. She enjoyed her coworkers immensely, and played the role of mother, sister, advisor, and friend.
Evelyn enjoyed traveling, shopping, crossword puzzles, snacking on crackers, and laughing. She truly lived a full and rich life. Her parents, daughter Mimi A. Beauman-Knights, husband Charles Lincoln Beauman III and son-in-law Ronald M. Knights preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her life, two Sons: Johannes R. Beauman (Wanda) Denver, CO, Charles E. Beauman IV (Sallie) Frisco, TX, two Daughters: Toni Y. Beauman Dickerson (Reverend Winfrey) St. Louis, MO, Eva L. Greene (Walter) Denver, CO, twelve Grandchildren: Sonya R. Beauman (Denver, CO), Evelyn L. Brooks (Frisco, TX), Shirelyn R. Jeffrey "Rock" Greene (Houston, TX), Jazmyne A. Bosley and Gisselle O. Dickens all of Temecula, CA.
We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Evelyn during her 90 years of life, among them: Be appreciative regardless of what you get. Take care of your stuff and it will last longer. Problems in life are like math problems, some you can work out fast and others take a little longer to resolve. Be kind to others. Love God. Whatever you do, be the best at it. Always hold your head up and walk proud. You have to work for anything you want in life. There's no easy way. Dress for style and comfort, and you'll find your own style. Do what works for you. You guys can argue, but you better not pass any licks. Parents stand together and never divided in front of the children. Treat animals with love and care. There's always another way besides fighting to solve a problem. Take care of your neighbors, and keep watch of everyone on the block. There's only one thing a short man can do for me – point me to a tall one.
Many Thanks
