Evelyn Ann Thorn, 78, of Lakewood, died June 5, 2019. She was born to the late Kenneth and Anita Guisinger, April 24, 1941 in Denver, Colorado. Evelyn graduated from North High School in 1958 where she met her sweetheart and future husband of 59 years, Daniel Thorn.
In Dan's words, Ev was a great partner. They would have celebrated their 59th anniversary on June 12th this year. She devoted her endless energy to her family and always made sure everyone was happy. She was a true matriarch of the entire family.
Evelyn was a dancer from age 4. She taught tap, ballet, and modern dance from the ages 16 through 78. Most recently, she taught and choreographed dances for The Daughters of the Nile. These dances were performed at induction ceremonies, numerous local events for the organization, and out-of-state competitions. She even composed dances as she sat restlessly in a hospital bed during her final days.
She was also an accomplished seamstress, a love she learned from her late mother, Anita. She designed costumes for numerous dance recitals, wedding dresses, draperies, home décor, and clothes for the entire family. She was always the fabulous cake decorator for the family's birthday celebrations.
Evelyn was a gardener. She loved flowers, especially her beautiful rose garden. This was a love she shared with her late father, Kenneth. To this day, she still has blooming roses left to her from his garden.
Seven days a week, even though she did not have to, Evelyn could be found painting, landscaping, working on a ladder, or hard at work on any of the numerous tasks at the investment properties in preparation for Dan to rent them to potential tenants.
Evelyn and Dan traveled the planet together, including trips to Rome, London, Paris and Africa. In addition, they took family vacations every summer visiting places from Hawaii to Florida and many places in-between. In recent years, she and Dan always managed to get to Vegas twice a year for each of their birthdays.
As a kindhearted grandmother, Evelyn loved to spend time and spoil her grandchildren: Justin, Taylor, Tyler, Cedar, Brock, Kayla, Andrew and Raena as often as possible. She treated her step grandchildren as if they had always been a part of her family. As she did with her own children, she attended school events, concerts, award ceremonies and sporting events involving her grandchildren.
Evelyn was awarded the Master Angler fishing award in Nebraska by catching a White Bass at Lake McConaughy.
She and her sister Yvonne married brothers. Her father built his home and homes for both his daughters allowing everyone to live near one another all of her life.
Evelyn is survived by her husband Daniel, 3 children: Kim and Rich Elder of Arvada Colorado; David Alan and Lisa Thorn of Wheat Ridge Colorado and Gina and Robb Vigil of Arvada Colorado. She is also survived by her sister Yvonne Thorn and grandchildren: Taylor Osborne, Tyler Thorn, Cedar Mast, Brock Mast, Kayla Vigil, Andrew Vigil, and Raena Vigil. She is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Anita Guisinger and grandson Justin Elder.
A visitation will be held at 12:30, prior to the service at 1:30 pm at St Paul's Community Church followed by an entombment at Crown Hill Cemetery. Reception to immediately follow at the home of David and Lisa Thorn.
