Evenne (Eve) W. Sheppard, of Wheat Ridge, passed away on November 10, at the age of 70. She was born in Lancaster, PA on February 14, 1934 the only child of Elvin and Violet Wails. After graduating from Manheim Township High School in l951, she attended Millersville State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Library Science in l955. During her early adult years, Eve served as a high school, junior high school and university (Marshall University) librarian. She married Richard A. Sheppard on June l, l957, and in l960, moved to Kentucky and then to Colorado in l962.
Although she worked intermittently in Colorado as a substitute teacher, secretary and editorial assistant, the remainder of her life was devoted chiefly to volunteer activities and to mastering the broad spectrum of needlework arts. She volunteered almost full time for the American Red Cross for nearly a decade, chiefly as chairperson of nursing home volunteers for the Mile High Chapter. Other volunteer efforts included the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program(RSVP), Wheat Ridge Community Center, and the U.S. Geological Survey where she researched and co-authored several bibliographic publications.
Her interest in needlework continued through her later life, and she served as president of the Foothills Chapter of the Embroiderer's Guild of America. Eve also was president of the Empire Club, and belonged to Eastern Star, White Shrine and Amaranth. She accompanied her geologist husband in field work throughout the western U.S. She is survived only by her husband. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Denver Dumb Friends League.
