Fern L (Brandt) Johnson, 93, of Denver, passed away May 12, 2019. She will be dearly missed.
Fern was born June 11, 1925, in Watertown, South Dakota, the oldest child of Elmer and Mabel Brandt. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1943. After her high school graduation she moved to Seattle, WA with her cousin Carolyle (Norcutt) Dittbenner to work in shipyards outfitting ships for the Navy during WWII. After the war ended, she moved to Newberg, Oregon with her parents.
She married Raymond Johnson from Denver, Colorado on June 25th, 1948 in Newberg, Oregon. They were married until Ray's death in March 2008, three months before their 60th wedding anniversary. Fern lived in Denver the rest of her life.
Fern and Ray had two children and their family was very close. They were dedicated, lifelong Christians. The family enjoyed camping and fishing often and yearly road trips to California and Oregon to visit family. Fern worked at Samsonite as a Supervisor for many years and retired early in 1983.
Fern was a very active and social woman and loved to spend time with her family and friends and making new friends. She and Ray were part of the Eagles camping club, a group of families that camped together regularly for over 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was also an asset to her bowling league and billiards league, but she especially loved singing. In later years Fern wasn't able to be as active in the outdoors, but she always enjoyed visiting her local Senior Center and always kept busy helping out and chatting with people, and particularly enjoyed sing-a-longs.
Fern is survived by her son Rick Johnson and her daughter Debbie (Frank) Marler of Denver, her brother Wayne (Joyce) Brandt of WA and her sister Phyllis Arn of OR, four grandchildren, Brandon (DeAnna) Marler of Bailey, Kindra (David Campbell) Schneiderman of Montrose, Rachel (Aaron) Ward and Alyssa (Aaron Kriznar) Johnson of Denver, and 4 great-grandchildren Annabelle, MaKenna, Zachary and MiKaela.
She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Johnson, her parents Elmer and Mabel Brandt, and her sister Bonnie Bibelheimer.
A short graveside service will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on June 4, 2019. Meet at Staging Area C at 1:15 pm.
