Fidela was six years old when the family moved to Denver in 1941. She attended grade school at Barnum Elementary. She then moved on to a private Catholic school. Thereafter, she attended West High School where she met her sweetheart, Don.
Don & Fidela were happily married for 56 years. Through the good times and hard times , their love and devotion to each other never wavered. These two set the standard of what growing old together truly means. Mom & Dad, thank you for the example you set for the rest of us.
In addition to being a terrific mother, grandmother and homemaker, she worked for King Soopers as a marketing director for 20 years. After retirement she enjoyed gardening and displaying her prize-winning summer flowers. Mom enjoyed decorating for every occasion. One of her many hobbies was collecting Annalee dolls, which she displayed every holiday. Her decorating skill was inherited from her loving mother.
Fidela was the happiest when her friends and relatives would stop by for a cup of coffee and her delicious banana bread. Her grandchildren looked forward to spending the night with Grandma and Papa, knowing they each had a special treat, whether it be graham crackers and milk, licorice and popcorn or ice cream. Each grandchild had his/her own favorite. One of her night-time traditions was staying up late watching scary movies.
Mom's summer and fall passion was her annual trip with her brothers and sisters to Breckenridge Resort and Spa. Her main activity in the great outdoors was shopping, spa time and attending cocktail parties.
During the family's early years they took an annual road-trip vacation. Another favorite summertime activity was their trips to Wyoming, to the Flying X Dude Ranch. This vacation was shared with mom's total extended family. The ranch offered some of the best fishing, horseback riding, hiking, swimming and fabulous BBQ's.
In her retirement years, she cherished the dinners she shared with her brothers and sisters. Mom initiated these dinners after the loss of her parents to ensure the family stayed connected.
Fidela devoted her life to our Blessed Mother to whom she offered her prayers at daily mass at her beloved St. Jude's Catholic Church. Her devotion inspired all who knew her.
P.S. She was a super cook. We'll miss her famous green chili which none of us were able to duplicate.
