Floyd Benjamin, 78, husband of the late Alice-Faye Sturges, departed from this life to the embrace of the Lord on March 4, 2019 in Aurora, Colorado.
Born September 8, 1940, in Lena , Louisiana, he was the son of the late Elisha and Teresa Benjamin. Floyd grew up surrounded by his sisters, Eliza, Ida, Doris, Eulice, Brenda and brothers Donald, Doffie, Elisha, Sam and Lloyd.
Floyd moved to Denver, Colorado in the early sixties with the help from his cousin, Chester Benjamin. Shortly thereafter, Floyd met Joann Palmer. In 1963, Floyd and Joann united in holy matrimony. From this union, a son, Michael Anthony Benjamin, was born. This marriage was later dissolved. In 1972 Floyd met Alice Sturges. Floyd and Alice made a commitment to each other by Unity of Marriage that lasted 46 years until Alice's passing in 2017.
Floyd was a hard working man. He worked for a number of companies in the seventies and eighties including Samsonite and Denver Pipe and Brick company. Floyd also operated his own Liquor store and gas station. From the early nineties until his retirement in 2013, Floyd was an independent contractor who specialized in short and long haul trucking. Floyd's success in the trucking industry enabled him to licence his own brand, Benjamin Transportation. Floyd sold the rights to his brand upon his retirement in 2013.
Floyd was a faithful and dedicated member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Denver. He joined the pastoral leadership of Reverend Jones. Floyd worked as an usher for the church and took great pride in serving his community.
Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his son Michael Anthony Benjamin of Denver, Colorado. Three step-children, Anthony Sturges, Rosalind Sturges and Tommy Sturges of Aurora, Colorado, sisters Doris (Adam) Richard Eulice (Clyde) White, Brenda (John) Thrower; four brothers Doffie (Delores) Benjamin, Elisha (Jessie) Benjamin, Jr., Sam ( Valerie) Benjamin, Lloyd Benjamin; four grandchildren, one step grandchild, nine great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces,nephews and many friends.
In addition to his wife Alice-Faye, he was predeceased by his sisters Eliza Anderson, Ida Brooks and brother Donald Benjamin.
To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.
A viewing for the public will be Tuesday, March 12th from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at Shiloh Baptist Church, 3301 Leyden Street, Denver , Colorado, 80207. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am. Interment at 2:30 pm., St. Simeon Cemetery, 22001 CO-30, Aurora, Colorado, 80018. Repast will immediately follow the graveside service at Shiloh Baptist Church, 3301 Leyden Street, Denver, Colorado, 80207. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Floyd Benjamin and Alice Sturges to the Aurora Mental Health Center (https://www.aumhc.org/).
