Fonda Scoggins, 74, of Aurora, CO, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, at her home.
Fonda Irene was born March 13, 1947 in Syracuse, KS, to Mattie (Opal) Nickerson Hoyt and Elmer Hoyt.
Fonda grew up and attended school in Syracuse. She graduated with the SHS Class of 1965. After graduation, she attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, KS. She excelled in the Administrative Assistant program and IBM Key punch.
On Nov. 2, 1968, she married Orville Leon Scoggins in Hooker, OK. Fonda and Leon resided in Guymon, OK, until her job transferred them to Aurora, CO, in 1978. Fonda was most often employed as a bookkeeper, but in 1985 she opened her own home daycare. This allowed her to spend more time with her son, Trevor Scoggins, who was born in July of 1982. Fonda went back to office work in 1992 and was working for Action Appliance at the time of her death.
Fonda was preceded in death by her parents, Opal and Elmer Hoyt; her husband, Leon Scoggins on Dec. 24, 2017, two sisters, Jeanne Pollart in December 2012, and Gaynell Shufflebarger in July of 2021. She was also preceded in death by an infant brother David Dean Elkin and nephew Michael Scott Hoyt Pollart.
Survivors include her son, Trevor Lee Scoggins of Aurora, CO; brothers in law JD (Carol) Scoggins of North Platte, NE, Eddy (Marilyn) Scoggins of Edmond. OK and Steve Shufflebarger of Syracuse, NE, several nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
Graveside services for Fonda will be Thursday Jan. 13, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver, CO.
The family asks that those planning to attend meet at Staging Area A by 1:45 p.m. Memorials may be given to the charity of choice in her memory.
