Frank Domenic Le Lievre, 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 8, 2021.
Frank was born on July 14, 1935 in Waltham, MA, the fourth of five children to Joseph and Marion Lever. Frank graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1953 and received an Associate of Culinary Arts from the Culinary Institute of America in 1972. He served in the Armed Forces in the Honor Guard and was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Edna Saito in 1961 and they lived in Honolulu, HI until they retired to Estes Park, CO in 1992.
Frank was an award-winning Executive Chef, winning a World Culinary Gold Medal in Germany for the Hawaii Team. He owned and operated his own restaurant, The Cookery, in Kailua, HI and later worked for Marriott in their in-flite division as an Executive Chef and General Manager simultaneously, two positions normally given to two professionals. He loved to create ice sculptures and tallow carvings, and worked for numerous restaurants in Hawaii and Massachusetts. He was also an accomplished golfer as well as an amazing handyman, building beautiful decks, fences and other structures for clients and neighbors. He was always willing to help a friend in need in any way he could.
We'll miss Frank's generosity, love of family, work ethic and sense of humor, which he had until the end. We will take comfort in treasured memories.
Frank is survived by His beloved wife Edna; son Larry Le Lievre (Ann) and daughter Lisa Grossbach (Tim); grand-daughter Lexi Grossbach; and brother Don Le Lievre (Beverly).
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Marian Lever, sister Dorothy Lassman and brothers Edward Le Lievre and William Le Lievre.
