Fredrick Ernest Swanson, affectionately known as “Freddie,” was born on the first of July 1941 in the vibrant city of Anchorage, Alaska, during a time when the vast wilderness held a unique charm that shaped his character. He was the cherished son of Dorothy Alaska (Shell) and Edward Emmanuel Swanson. In 1944, his mother wed Eldo L. Richardson, introducing a new chapter into Freddie's early life. The family embarked on a monumental journey, taking a grand ferry down the West Coast to California before settling in Kansas, his stepfather’s home state. These formative years were filled with wonder; it was here that young Freddie and his siblings encountered thunder for the very first time, marvelously mistaken by the two boys for the sky falling in a Chicken Little moment.
Following a brief sojourn through Colorado, which captured his mother’s heart, the Swanson family found their permanent home among the breathtaking landscapes of Colorado, where they would thrive for the remainder of their lives. This exceptional backdrop undoubtedly influenced Freddie, fostering a spirit of adventure and a zest for life that would accompany him through many chapters.
On November 25, 1961, Freddie married Carol Marie Romero. Together, they forged a loving partnership that bore two wonderful children: Elizabeth Marie (Brett) Dietrich and Edward David Swanson. The legacy of their love lives on through their grandchildren—Moses, Bobby, Gina Armijo, and Eric Henderson—and four great-grandchildren: Justus, Jeda, Jazmin, and Elijah, along with a great-great-granddaughter, Juniper Jade.
Freddie’s life was enriched by his love for music and dance, a passion that he shared with Carol. The couple mesmerized all with their grace on the dance floor, earning accolades in several dance contests, a testament to their harmony and joy not only as partners but as best friends.
Yet, as the pages of life turn, we are reminded of the inevitable sorrow of parting. Freddie is preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol, father Edward E. Swanson, mother Dorothy Alaska, and stepfather Eldo Richardson. He also reunited with his brothers Edward Swanson, George Richardson, and Robert “Bobby” Richardson, as well as his sisters Clara and Eldrine Richardson.
Fredrick Ernest Swanson leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the timeless rhythms of life that will resonate in the hearts of his family and friends. His spirit, forever etched into the fabric of those he cherished, shines brightly as a beacon guiding us to remember the joy and warmth he brought into our lives.
