Gale S. Weeding was born November 29 ,1924 in Wapello Idaho.
His parents were Charles G Weeding and Wanda H Salverson .
He grew up with one brother and eights sisters on the family dairy farm near Blackfoot .
As a youth, he spent a summer working on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation which left a lasting impression .
From an early age he enjoyed hunting, and skiing. He graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1942. He enlisted in the Army and was a member of the 82nd Airborne earning his Parachutist Badge, and training in alpine warfare. When discharged he moved briefly to California and then moved to Denver to attend the University of Denver, graduating in 1950. In 1949 he spent a summer bicycling through Europe and climbing in the alps including the Matterhorn and Mount Blanc.
After graduating from the University of Denver he worked at The Denver Research Institute.
He later worked for Falcon Research and Development before returning and finishing his career at DRI as a senior research engineer.
During his career Gale was listed as an inventor and co-inventor in several patents.
Gale was an avid mountain climber, active in the Colorado Mountain Club, where he met his wife Barbara Jean Weber. They were both technical climbers ,enjoying climbs in the Western States, Mexico and Canada. A route on the East face of Longs Peak, "Weeding's Detour. " was named for him in 1952. During the summer of 1955 he took a leave and worked as a Mountain Climbing Guide in the Teton Mountains for Paul Petzoldt. Gale and Barbara had three children, two daughters Tina and Marla and son Craig who they instilled with their love of the outdoors and travel.
Both Gale and Barbara were amateur photographers, members of the W.H. Jackson Club, participating in and winning awards in International competitions. In Colorado he continued climbing, fishing, backpacking and hunting while raising his family and working.
During retirement, he and his wife traveled internationally and became enthusiastic bird watchers.
Preceded in death by his wife Barbara, daughter Tina, brother Rulon, sisters Ethel, Ruth, Agnes ,Thelma, Fern, Helen and Elona.
He is survived by one sister, Barbara Morseburg, daughter Marla, son Craig, grandson Erik and son-in-law Gooitzen Zwanenburg and many cousins and nieces and nephews.
Services will be private .
In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting donations to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science .
Gale and Barbara are inured in the columbarium, Fort Logan National Cemetery.
