Garth Boese, of Lakewood, Colorado (aka Daddy, Gus, Glotzman, Handsome, Grandpa Weirdo) passed away on May 14, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Sara, daughters Kenya Haupt, Kerrie Boese, Roxanne Macke, Sas Bennett, Nancy Williams and Sendy Cardona, son Anthony Boese, twenty grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father Clarence, mother Myrtle, and his beloved oldest daughter, Kelly.
Garth was born in Burlington, Colorado, raised in Lakewood, Colorado and also lived in Juneau Alaska, Lakewood Ohio, Concord California, Rhodes Greece, Hialeah Florida, Bangkok Thailand, Vientane Laos, Raleigh North Carolina and Seattle Washington. He traveled to 56 countries and all 50 states, visiting the last one, Maine, with daughter Kenya in October of 2023. He always returned to his home state of Colorado, where he loved backpacking, camping, and exploring the mountains, always searching for (and finding!) the perfect fishing hole.
Garth was a track and field star at Lakewood High School, holding the Colorado high school record for the mile for several years. He ran for University of Colorado for one year before joining the U.S. Coast Guard.
Garth was an electronics engineer by trade. After working in the field for several years, he obtained his electronics engineering degree from Metropolitan State College while raising a family and working fulltime. His career was dedicated to public service. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard, worked for KRMA Channel 6, served as Manager of Communications for Air America in Vientiane, Laos during the Vietnam War, and worked for the DEA, CIA, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife. He “retired” in 2002, but continued doing contract work for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He claims that he retired again in 2005 to trout fishing. But, he loved working and continued doing odd jobs as long as he could, including shuttling people to and from concerts at Red Rocks.
He loved his family deeply and instilled in all of us a love of nature, adventure and fun. He was smart and kind to everyone he met. We will miss him dearly, but know that he’s somewhere with his parents and Kelly catching his limit!
Services for Garth will be held at 11:30 am on June 5 at Lakewood Christian Fellowship Church, 25 S Newland, Lakewood, CO followed by a graveside ceremony at 2 pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
